Caroline is incredibly knowledgeable in her field and the work she does on our behalf,  is both excellent and sympathetic. She follows the brief to the letter, while often accommodating tight deadlines. It is always a pleasure.

Caroline approaches every project with exceptional sensitivity and care.  A leader in her field both in terms of expertise and customer service, Caroline can always be trusted for an honest opinion and meticulous, impeccable work.

Jennifer Strotz, sothebys

I asked Caroline to clean and repair several old archived works on paper, for an exhibition in 2023. Unfortunately they had become very dirty and had multiple stains, from water, rust and glue. My early studios weren’t glamorous! I was worried they would never be able to be cleaned properly or even be exhibited. After several weeks the works were restored and I was amazed and relieved that Caroline had returned them to their original state. Her insightful approach, attention to detail and restoration skills are remarkable. I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone considering paper restoration.

From restorers, for me two qualities are crucial. Firstly and obviously the skills and facilities to do the work but also, most important, a clear line of communication through the project. We have worked with Caroline for many years and she has always excelled at both. A key part of our team.

Caroline Harrison has been conserving works in the Drawing Matter Collection since 2016.
We were introduced to her through her work on paper architectural models, and after her impressive work on a model of the Bath Assembly Rooms by Oliver Messel, she has since worked on many drawings from different centuries in a range of media and paper.
These include18th century hand-made paper; 19th century machine-made paper; large architects’ drawings on brittle 19th century tracing paper, and 20th century charcoal and pastel drawings on very thin tracing paper; and mixed media collage.
Caroline has great technical ability, combined with a warm, friendly personality, and it is always a pleasure to discuss drawings with her.

Susie Dowding, Registrar, Drawing Matter Collections

Our go-to restorer for works on paper and prints, Marlborough has relied on Caroline’s expertise for many years, entrusting her with the restoration of works on paper by high profile artists such as Frank Auerbach, Bridget Riley, Lynn Chadwick and Victor Pasmore. She has reliably provided quick, excellent service in restoring everything from creases to handling marks, watermarks and foxing, and was always very transparent in providing advice and quotes for different treatment options, as well as the timeframe required for the job.
